London: Millar and D. Wilson and T. Payne, 1752., 1752. First printing. 8vo. xxiii, 431 pp. + [1] page Errata. Contemporary full calf binding with raised spinal bands. The work which founded modern military medicine: Pringle (1707-1782) was Physician-General of the British Army from 1744-1752. His books lay down the principles of military sanitation and hospital ventilation, pioneered in antisepsis, showed that jail and hospital fever are the same, improved ventilation on ships, barracks, jails, and mines, correlated the different forms of dysentery, and coined the name influenza. The preface includes an account of the origin of the Red Cross idea. Old inscription on title page "ex libris Society Medico Chirur Aberdee Livingston M.D." Livingston s signature is on front endpaper. Very good, contents unfoxed. Scarce in the first edition.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good.
