New York: The Dial Press, 1924. A very good plus copy, internally fresh and clean, the spine label lightly chipped at edges and toned, a few small areas of wear to covers. 8vo. 120 pages. Original black half cloth, black boards, printed paper spine label, with an additional label mounted on rear pastedown. FIRST EDITION, first impression of Moore's second book of poetry, but the first published with her approval. The book won the Dial Award in 1924. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Moore on the front flyleaf: "This is Dean Warren Bower's copy of my 'Observations' - the preferable edition - and I wish I had given it to him / Marianne Moore / March 26 1954 / not corrected however." Warren Bower was professor of English at New York University and was well known for his WNYC radio program, "The Reader's Almanac," which offered interviews with authors between 1938 and 1967. In 1962 Bower was given the Peabody Award for the show. Moore appeared on the program in 1961 and was interviewed by Bower about her collection 'A Marianne Moore Reader.' By the time of her inscription, Moore's reputation was fully established: she had won the National Book Award, and the Pulitzer and Bollingen Prizes in 1951; she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1955. Abbott A3.1. A wonderful association copy of one of the landmarks of early 20th century verse.

Description:
Paris, 1930. Unbound. Paul Fort's original manuscript, neatly and beautifully written in ink; quarto, 79 leaves of heavy cream paper and laid loose into a green portfolio. Paul Fort drew much of his inspiration from the Middle Ages, and the aballad form that he used almost exclusively was taken from the same period. He filled some forty volumes with his delicate ballads. He was also active in the theatre, even before the turn of the century, writing some plays himself and producing what were considered "difficult" plays by some of his contemporaries. In 1956, he received the Grand Literary Prize of the City of Paris for his works. Fine. Together with the limited edition of the book (#48 of 200 copies), Inscribed to Madame Christian Schram Senior and with an 11 line holograph poem, initialed "P. F." and dated Paris, May, 1931; and with an excellent 4 page autograph letter signed and dated October 8, 1930. A near fine copy.

Cleveland, 1966. Faint toning. 11 x 8.5 inches. Title leaf of translucent paper with an original drawing by levy. Mimeographed. 12 pages, on rectos only. Stapled wrappers, front cover with original ink scarab drawing by the author mounted. One of 33 copies. A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows…) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions… Read More
