London: Cassell Petter & Galpin, [1872]. Leather. Very Good. 8" by 5.5". None stated. The new edition of this illustrated work on the ocean and it's inhabitants by Louis Figuier. The new edition, revised by E. Perceval Wright. In a full calf prize binding for 'Boston Grammar School'. With a frontispiece, vignettes and 30 plates. Collated complete. This work on the ocean was written by Louis Figuier. Figuier was a French scientist and writer, with this work being translated from the original French. The work provides a description of the ocean, marine animals and the way humans work and live off the ocean, including an overview of the use of sea salts and the fishing industry. Undated. Dated by a copy held at the British Library. In a full calf prize binding for 'Boston Grammar School'. Externally very smart with marks to the boards, slight rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities and light fading to the spine. Missing front free endpaper with the odd minor mark to the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with light spotting throughout, heavier to the front and rear. Plate 'VII' mis-bound, facing pp. 236 instead of pp.239. Very Good
