Illustrated profusely by John Flaxman (1755-1826), a British neoclassicist sculptor and artist.Consists of all twenty-four books of Homer's 'Odyssey'. The 'Odyssey' is a Greek epic poem detailing the tale of war hero Odysseus as he struggles to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. It features all manner of mythological figures and episodes, including the most famous book IX, which contains his encounter with the Cyclops. Translated by Alexander Pope (1688-1744), considered one of the greatest English poets of all time. Pope's poetry was often satirical, and made use of the heroic couplet as featured in epics.
