General shelf wear with a few nicks, some chipping to spine ends of a few volumes. From the library of J. Japhet, who was a very wealthy London businessman and banker. His firm was instrumental in arbitrage, increasing the trading of railroad stock and other noted securities in the latter part of the nineteenth to the early twentieth century in London. Britain soon became the global financial center of the world at that time. His bookplate is within each volume. Overall, a very handsome set.
