Glasgow: John Graham (For the Letter-Carriers of the Post-Office), 1836. xv, 341, 118 pp, 7 1/8" H. Brown leather spine and corners, marbled paper-covered boards, black leather title label on spine with gilt lettering, additional gilt date and decoration, blindstamped design. Small label at top of front pastedown: "J. Carss & Co., Bookbinders, 31, Argyle Street, Glasgow." Title page continues: "Classed and Arranged Under Each Distinct Head of Trade or Profession: With a Street Directory: and An Appendix Containing many Useful Lists. Ninth Publication." The first section (xv pp) consists of a Calendar (July, 1836 to December, 1837); Stamp Duties; Index. The second section (341 pp) contains Alphabetical List of Streets, Squares, Places &c. With a Reference to their Situation; Letter Carriers; Glasgow Post-Office Directory (arranged by name); Glasgow Post-Office Directory, Arranged by Profession. The final section (118 pp) is an Appendix of additional information, including: Postages; Foreign Post Towns; English Post-Towns; Penny-Posts in England; Irish Post-Towns; Penny-Posts in Ireland; Scotch Post Towns; Penny-Posts in Scotland; Magistrates, &c.; Hackney Coaches; Porters; Agents for Traders; Harbour Dues; Carriers' Quarters; Messengers at Arms; Tide Tables, etc., etc. Two small ink stains on page 275, inside hinges are a little weak but holding well, moderate staining to edges of endpapers from leather binding - migrates into several adjacent pages, small number in ink on front free endpaper, browning/darkening to edges of text block, wear to marbled boards and leather, staining on hinges. Book is protected in a stiff mylar sleeve.. Half-Leather. Good-.
