About This Item
Sydney, Balmain: Quadrant Books, 2009. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), top edge little foxed, pages lightly toned as usual, minor edgewear. 314 pp. The Sydney journalist Frank Devine writes about growing old - an aspect of human experience only thinly covered in literature. When he reached 70, the author decided to write about it: being home alone when his wife is hospitalised, on being a grandparent, long-term marriage, his cancer treatment, and the proper attitude and attire for a man of his age. He also reflects on his long career in newspapers and 'Quadrant' magazine as a conservative commentator and investigator, and discusses good writers and famous men.
