Tri color cloth with image of Black child and ducks running along book cover edge. Written in black vernacular, which is distressing since Johnstone was not Black. She is the multi-published author of the little colonel series. Vintage with minimal foxing and stains along pg foredges (10-12 pgs) not affecting text or Portrait frontis and more b/w illustrations among the 118 pages.

A small book intended for middle grades readers. Dialog tries to give the dialectic feel, which can make it challenging to read for some. This is the author of The Little Colonel, later made into a movie with Shirley Temple. Many illustrations. Only about half of the dust jacket remains, but the cover is very well preserved. Yellow and tan fabric with print and decoration in green and black. Wear is mild, and the pages are clean, tight and unmarked, other than an inscription on the front free endpaper, shown in the photographs. Originally published in 1897. A rare book.
