Title-page in black and red letters, with vignette. This book of fables is embellished with 280 wood engravings. The illustrations were first devised by the author, then drawn by William Harvey, and finally engraved on wood by John Johnson, of the Apollo Press. Each of the 100 fables has an engraving at the head and foot, with an ornamental first letter of the fable. Index of the engravings is found at the end of the text. Occasional light foxing is noted, heaviest on the frontispiece. A pleasing example of an early 19th-century English illustrated book of fables. 272pp.. Second Edition. Salmon Cloth. Embellished with two-hundred and eighty engravings on wood. William Harvey designed the ornamental letters and tail-pieces, but northcode designed the main engravings. Northcote worked as an assistant in Joshua Reynolds' studio and to the preface he states 'a chief inducement in making this collection, was the amusement and employment it afforded me in the way of my profession as a painter, in sketching designs for each fable'. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Ikebana Arranging Images; Kamata, Soseke, 1950's. A nice publication given to Julia Jane Jeffers Dodge while here husband was helping Japan recover after the war. Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.
