The suspect is a doctor and recovering alcoholic whose second wife has disappeared. While he worries that he may have fallen off the wagon and that this is related to his wife's disappearance, the police detective investigating the case cannot help but suspect the doctor since he was tried and almost convicted for the death of his first wife.
