London, Chatto & Windus 1885 (1st.).. Hardback, 7.5 x 5 inches. Nice light brown cloth with illustration of trees on a hill on front cover, also on spine (in blue). Navy blue endpapers In good condition. Spine darkened, small nicks to ends with partial split to middle at top. Neat inscription to endpaper/half-title, “Michael Royde-Smith.” One very small nick to outer page edges between p175-185, one minor mark to last cat page, else pages all very clean and tight throughout. Hf. title. 270pp + 32pp cat. Similar to his essays in "The Life of the Fields" with great depth and insight.
