About This Item
Boston and Toronto: Little, Brown and Company, 1957 . First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". None. The first US edition of Evelyn Waugh's semi-autobiographical novel in the original dust wrapper. First US edition of The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold, A Conversation Piece, by Evelyn Waugh in the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. This semi-autobiographical novel is nicknamed Waugh's 'mad book'. The novel is based on a period of hallucinations the author experienced due to bromide intoxication. Evelyn Waugh was an English author and novelist, most notably of satire works such as Decline and Fall (1928) and A Handful of Dust (1934). In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent. There is some slight wear to the extremities of the dust wrapper. To the binding, there is some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are very bright and clean. Near Fine
