About This Item

Cambridge: Printed at the University Press, 1909. 1st Edition. 1st Edition. First and Only Edition commemorated the celebration held at Cambridge from June 22 to June 24, 1909, marked the centenary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 50th anniversary of the publication of "On the Origin of Species." This event was a significant gathering of scientists and scholars from around the world to honour Darwin's contributions to science. The Darwin Celebration of 1909 was a landmark event commemorating the profound impact of Charles Darwin's work on the scientific community and the broader understanding of the natural world. The proceedings reflected both the historical significance and the ongoing influence of Darwin's ideas in various scientific disciplines.

This particular edition was owned by E.M.Forster as well as Laura Mary Forster. Charles Darwin stayed at her house in Surrey in 1879 and Laura was a lifelong friend of Darwin's eldest daughter Henrietta.

The spine has browning and on the back cover a small layer of the paper has been rubbed off. All binding tight and no markings.

This is a unique and very good copy of a scarce limited edition publication.
