Irving Stone (1903 - 1989) was an American writer, chiefly known for his well-reserached and popular bio-historical novels about noted artists, politicians, and intellectuals. Among the best known are Lust for Life (1934), about Vincent van Gogh, and The Agony and the Ecstasy (1961), about Michelangelo. He married his editor, Jean Factor Stone, in 1934.<br /> <br /> Based on five years of research by Stone (paralleling in time Darwin's years aboard the "Beagle," The Origin is a biographical novel of the life of Charles Darwin. Darwin was a geologist and biologist, and is generally considered the father of evolutionary theory. The novel begins with Darwin at the age of 22 and is centered on the Voyage of "H.M.S. Beagle" until his death in 1882.<br /> <br /> SIGNED & in SUPERIOR CONDITION internally & externally. Slight edgewear mainly noticeable on dj's upper edge. No previous owner or remainder markings.
