Buenos Aires, Museo Nacional de Buenos Aires, 1910. Large 8vo (28.0 x 18.6 cm). xiv, 313 pp.; 86 text figures. Blind front wrapper. A seldom-seen paper on Argentine birds. With an introduction, followed by two parts, viz., Parte I. Caracteres morfólogicos que tienen valor en la classificación de las aves (illustrated), followed by Parte II. Distribúcion geográfia de las aves en el territorio Argentino, including a Lista general de los órdenes, familias, géneros, especies y subespecies de aves señalades entre los límites del territorio Argentino y su distribución aproximada sobre el mismo. The latter being a table encompassing a large list of localities, followed by a bibliography and an index of names. Includes the Falkland Islands, as Islas Malvines. The author, Roberto Raul Dabbene (1864-1938) was an Italian-Argentine ornithologist. "Born in Turin, he studied at the University of Turin and received a doctorate in 1884 from the University of Genoa and moved to Argentina in 1887. After teaching chemistry at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, he moved to Buenos Aires in 1890 where he was inspired to study birds by Dr. E. L. Homberg who made him a member of the zoo staff. He studied the Argentine birds for over 40 years, and became curator of birds at the National Museum and writing many of the most important books on the subject. He was a founder of the journal El Hornero" (Wikipedia). Published as the museum's Anales, Serie III, Volume XI. Binding weak, the bookblok broken, but internally very good, clean. Rare. Neither in Cat. BM(NH), nor in Zimmer.
