Paul Martin Simon (1928 â€" 2003) was an American author and politician from Illinois He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and in the United States Senate from 1985 to 1997 He also ran unsuccessfully for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination After his political career, he founded the Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in Carbondale, Illinois, which was later named for him, where he taught classes on politics, history and journalism He was famous for his distinctive bowtie and horn-rimmed glasses
A fine copy in blue cloth with gilt titles on spine Unclipped DJ is also pristine No marks or damage at all
It is inscribed by Simon on the title page "To Tony Scaviano - with gratitude for this and all you do - Paul Simon (p 181)" On p 181 (see photo) Scaviano is listed among the acknowledgements The book was published just two months before Simon died suddenly after heart surgery, so that signed copies are uncommon 208 pp.
