Lansbury, Condition: Beautiful decorative, clipped dustjacket has sun fading to the spine, the very slightest hint of wear to the corners and an approximate 1" band of discoloration across the top of the rear cover. Bright sienna brown cloth hardbound boards have gold gilt debossed text on the cover and spine. The spine and boards are in excellent condition free of edge wear or blemishes, corners are sharp with no bumping. Spine is straight and firm. Hinges are firmly attached to the endpapers. Text block is firm and solid with all pages attached. The interior pages are clean with no tears, chips, creases, or previous owner marks. A stunning book with every other page a beautiful color illustration – labeled and with sizing measurement added. This book was part of a nature series and serves as an introduction to the insects of the British Isles. Nearly 800 different species are illustrated with even more included in the opposite page of text, but it is still a small portion of the 20,000 or more species which exist in Britain. The insects are arranged according to a recent generally accepted classification, with a few exceptions, usually for convenience with the plates. Where there are widely accepted English names, these are used, followed always by the scientific name.
