In the scarce original publshers dustwrapper with colour illustration mounted onto the front panel, below black lettering and four line border. Flaps and other panels lettered in black. Original printed price (15/-) on spine has been blacked out neatly. Aside from a couple of tiny chips to the wrapper this is a beautiful fine example of this well produced edition. The publishers original decorative green cloth boards and spine, lettered and decorated in gilt, are bound in at rear. A lovely copy of this wonderful book.

Arthur Barker Limited, 1937. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG+/VG-. 20.5 x 29.1 cm green cloth boards with gilt stamped titles on black spine labels, 143pp including 20 brightly coloured images. The book comes with 5/- net price. A VG+ book, the larger of two versions of the first edition, with fading on the boards where there is loss to the dust jacket. Internally, clean and bright and without names or inscriptions but with very light spotting to the endpapers. There is also a small drip mark of � cm on pp38 and 39. The dust jacket has some significant loss with a 10 � cm x 5cm triangular section missing from the front panel and 1 � cm missing from the spine head and 3 cm from the foot. There is also lesser loss from the spine edge corners a number of closed tears and a little associated creasing. A scarce volume, particularly with a dust jacket in any condition. It is significant because, largely on the basis of this work, Noel Langley was chosen to adapt Frank L Baum's Wizard of Oz for the… Read More

Small bookseller label to the bottom of the front free endpaper. A fine and spotless copy of the book in publishers dark green cloth binding with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and spine. In the rare original illustrated dustwrapper, printed in red and green on beige paper. The red ink on the spine is faded and there are a couple of very small chips but overall this is a very smart example of the wrapper on a truly fine book. This first American edition uses sheets from the English edition, prnited by Ballantyne and Company in London. An uncommon survivor in such lovely condition.
