The author traces the history of Padre Island step by step through 28 periods and 400 years of Padre's past. This book contains the first published English translation of the account of Fray Marcos de Mena who was shripwrecked on Padre in 1553. Book contains 23 illustrations including ancient charts, maps, and photographs. Previous owner signature on first free endpaper. Text and illustrations clean and bright. Spine gently bumped at tail. Spine slightly slanted. Bottom front corner rubbed. Dust jacket has its original price. Dust jacket has wear to both ends of spine, heaviest to top edge where a 1x0.5 inch piece is missing. Two pieces of tape have been applied to the inside of the jacket to close small tears. There is a 1 inch open tear to top edge of front panel of DJ. Dust jacket now protected in Mylar.
