These stories framed as letters from Indian and Afghan soldiers were first published in the Saturday Evening Post in May and June 1917. Contents: A Retired Gentleman -- The Fumes of the Heart -- The Private Account -- A Trooper of Horse. Bookplate on front fixed endpaper of Frank P. Hadley. Book is in Very Good Condition: corners rubbed; head of spine starting to fray; clean and tight. The author, James Ross (1743-1827), was a captain in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He headed a grammar school in Carlisle, Pa., from 1780 to 1784, when he became the first faculty member of the newly founded Dickinson College. In 1792 he left Dickinson to established a school for classical learning in Chambersburg, Pa., where he wrote his popular Latin Grammar. He was professor of languages at Franklin College in Lancaster, Pa. from 18081 to 1809, when he moved to Philadelphia, where he continued to tutor students for the rest of his life. In Very Good Condition: lacking front free endpaper; closed 4-cm. tear from fore-edge of pp. 21-22; occasional soiling; light foxing; occasional marginal pencil mark; otherwise, clean and tight.

One of a limited edition of 300 copies. Illustrated title page. The diary reproduced here is from 1910-1911, when its author, later known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was 13 and 14. In Near Fine Condition: slight discoloration on endpapers; otherwise, clean and bright. Glassine dust jacket is in Very Good Condition: closed tears from upper edge of back ection; spine slightly sunned.

This one is in rough condition but appears to be complete and the only known original Perdue Debris Yearbook on the market before 1949. Please see photos for Fair condition.
