Octavo, pp.iv, 432, engraved b&w t.p. and plates (each plate dated 'Aug. 24 1816), light foxing to most plates, a.e.g., ink mark to fore-edge, watermark silk eps, worn with light staining, repairs to inner joints, elaborately gilt-stamped contemporary black morocco, gilt decorated spine, cnrs bumped, light scratch across front bd and rubbing to lower edges, contents clean, very good condn. Numerous elegant engravings by Finden, Heath, Mitan, Romney and Engleheart from drawings by Richard Westall. Paradise Regained is a poem, published in 1671, by the 17th century English poet John Milton. His epic poem, Paradise Lost, had been published earlier in 1667.
Synopsis
Paradise Regained demonstrates Milton's genius for fusing sense and sound, classicism and innovation, narrative and drama, fortifying not merely our sense of what is beautiful but what is human as well. It leaves readers with no choice but to commit themselves totally with their minds and with their hearts.
