Description

London: J.M. Dent and Co., 1901. Leather. Near Fine. 6" by 4". Not Stated. A handsomely bound, third edition copy of the third part of Dante Alighieri's infamous 'Divine Comedy'. Part of the Temple Classics series from J.M. Dent. Published in 1901, this is the third edition of J.M. Dent's Paradiso of Dante Alighieri. This is the third and final part of Dante's epic Divine Comedy after 'Inferno' and 'Purgatorio'. Dante Alighieri was a 13th century Italian poet, writer and philosopher. He is most famous for his Divine Comedy, which paints a picture of the medieval vision of the afterlife, including hell, purgatory, and heaven. It is widely considered to be one of the most celebrated works of Italian literature, and perhaps of all time. This edition is part of the Temple Classics series published by J.M. Dent in the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was edited by Israel Gollancz, an English scholar of early literature. Handsomely rebound in full calf binding and including a frontispiece as called for. In full calf binding. Externally, very smart, with just a slight bit of rubbing to the joints and head and tail of the spine. A few odd marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine
