About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1930. This handsome copy is the Stated "First and Second Printing Before Publication, Published August, 1930." The book is in clean, Very Good+ condition with a Very Good unclipped dust jacket. (Click on photo.) "Parties" was Van Vechten's last novel and illustrates how the constant party-going that marked the Roaring Twenties suddenly entered its death throes when the stock market crashed, and the youthful spirit of the times seemed to die as well. The book is bound in yellow cloth with a silver vignette cupid on the front panel and decorative grape designs in silver on the spine. The spine lettering is in deep green. There is yellow top-edge stain. There is a light corner bump on the front panel. The binding is tight and secure, and the pages are clean and bright throughout, with no marks or stains. The dust jacket, with the book's original $2.50 price intact, is Very Good and protected by a Brodart protective sleeve. The dust jacket has a small hole in the spine area, a few tiny chips, and spine fading. The same silver designs as on the covers and spine are repeated on the jacket. (Click on photo) The book measures 5 3/8 by 7 3/4 inches and includes 260 pages.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good+/Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
