One of 100 copies, numbered and signed by Michael Foreman on the title page and with a numbered and signed original etching loosely inserted. This copy number 1 of the book and etching. Illustrated in full colour throughout with the text confined to the margins. Hemingway's children's short story, a loose parody of Ferdinand the Bull, was originally published in Holiday magazine in 1951. This is the first printing with these illustrations. A fine copy in publishers laminated boards with full colour illustration to the front board. Colour illustrated endpapers. Etching image measures 3.9 x 3 inches on a sheet of untrimmed hand made paper measuring 9.5 x 7.5 inches, and has a loose tissue guard to protect it. The book is housed in a plain brown paper covered slip case.

Finland: Self-published, 1943. No Binding. Fine. An attractive and early etching by Tuulikki Pietilä. One a few images which were originally submitted by the artist as possible illustrations for the novel, Me Emme Lannistu (1943), by Finnish author Viena Korhonen. Signed in pencil, lower right and to the lower left the artist has written "Me emme lannistu" also in pencil. This inscription is extremely significant as it suggests the possibility that this may be one of the original images submitted by the artist. The copy held by the National Gallery of Finland, e.g. is a larger edition and titled "Partisaani" with no such reference to the book (although the origins of the piece are acknowledged in the catalogue). Framed and under glass, the frame measures 17 x 30 cm approx. Image size, 11.5 x 13.5 cm. There is a small chip to the frame top left corner and a few smaller marks around the edging. Not examined under glass, the etching itself appears to be in Fine condition. A quite fascinating and uncommonly early piece by Finland's most influential graphic artist of the 20th Century.

London: Hering & Remington, 1848. Near Fine. 1 hand-colored lithograph 400 x 475 mm. (image is 276 x 318 mm.; mat is 19.5 x 20 inches). The lithograph was created by Edmund Walker (1813 or 1814-1882) of Day & Son, after James Rattray's drawing. James Rattray (1818-1854) was a lieutenant in the British Bengal Army during the first Anglo-Afghan War, 1839-1842. The sketches he produced were published in 30 plates in Scenery, Inhabitants, & Costumes of Afghaunistan (1847-48). This is plate no. 2, a portrait of Dost Mohammed, who had been deposed as Emir of Afghanistan. In January 1841, when Rattray was granted an audience with him in Peshawar, Dost Mohammed was a prisoner, on his way to exile in Calcutta. Rattray wrote that since Dost Mohammed had been "a ruler just and merciful and attentive to affairs of state" the people of Peshawur thought that he had been unjustly treated by the British. Mel Hunter was best known for his science fiction illustrations for Isaac Asimove and Robert A. Heinlein and a successful career in scientific illustration. Hunter moved to Vermont in 1967 and began creating lithographs of the surrounding Vermont countryside. In 1976, after accidental damage to his limestone lithographic drawing, Hunter began using mylar as a medium for his lithography. thus dating this print from 1967-1976. . SIGNED BY ARTIST. Print .
