Longman et al, 1826. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1826. Eighteenth Edition. 715 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Contains fold-out maps. Book appears to have been rebound. Pages are notably thumb-marked with moderate tanning and light foxing to free endpapers and text block edges. Former owner's name and pencil inscription to front free endpaper and paste-down. Water drops on page 87, with a few small nicks along text block edge. Minor dog-eared corners. Maps are moderately tanned and foxed, with notable creasing and edge-wear. Slight tearing to joints, with tape repair and a water stain. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with mild bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy tanning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Large split down joint with exposed binding.

London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Bown, Green & Longmans. 18th . Buckram. Very Good. Undated but the census data is taken from the 1831 Census so sometime between 1831 and 1841. The book has been professionally rebound with red buckram spine and marbled boards. Previously in the library of W S Beaumont, the title page bears his stamp and his bookplate has been mounted on the inner flyleaf. All fold-out maps are present although part of that for the journeys East Bourne to New Shoreham/Rye to ? is missing and the remainder of the page has been prefessionally conserved. London Undated, believed to be 1830 pp 715 with nine folded maps (as called for per the list on page 6) . Followed by the Appendix , iv + 44 with a small folded map (of the banks of the Wye) . Internally very good. Binding firm - may have been strengthed at some stage , although the cover (sound with scuffing to the marbled boards) looks to be contemporary the endpapers / inside covers are later.

The largest map which acts as the frontispiece has 3 small holes along one of the folds 2 of which affect part of the North of England The frontispiece map is also lightly browned and spotted. Small tear to the head of the title page. Bookplate to the front pastedown of Henry Gough. Ink initials and date to the title page - HG Nov 1856. In old full leather binding, but this has been rebacked in the past. The leather has since been affected by insect damage and wear, particularly the foot of the spine and the lower parts of both boards..
