Description

New York: Oxford University Press, 1962 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 7.5" by 4.5". None. A first edition of this interesting insight into literature surrounding the American Civil War, by Edmund Wilson. First edition, in the publisher's original blue cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Written by American writer, literary critic and journalist, Edmund Wilson, who is widely viewed as one of the most influential literary critics of the 20th Century. In 'Patriotic Gore', Wilson takes a new approach to examining the American Civil War, by drawing on the writings of around thirty men and women who lived through it. These writings came in all different forms, consisting of speeches, pamphlets, private diaries, letters, personal memoirs and journalistic reports. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping and rubbing to the extremities and to the spine. Odd spot to endpapers. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edge wear and the odd chip, moreso to the head and tail of the spine. The occasional spot to the wrap, mainly to the flyleaves. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with one or two spots to the end papers. Very Good Indeed
