Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc, New York, 1939. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Brown coloured boards with black illustration to the front panel with black and gilt decoration to the backstrip and gilt coloured titles. Illustrated dustwrapper with gilt and black coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the backstrip. Written over a 12 month period  March 1938 to March 1939  the author's view of the historic / calamitous events of Europe and the wider world. Softening of the backstrip edges and bumping of the book corners. Rubbing of the lower book edges with a little fading to the top book edges. Browning of the textblock edges and aged honing of the pages. Offset tanning and faint foxing to the endpapers. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edges. There is a 'V' piece missing from the top edge of the front panel and there are various tears to the edges along with creasing. Rubbing to the dustwrapper along with some handling marks and fading to the backstrip. Browning and foxing to the verso of the dustwrapper. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [10], 367, [3] pages. In.
