About This Item
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1923. First edition. Cloth. Good/Good. 7.5" by 5" . None . The first edition of this mystery novel by Austen Freeman. The first edition of this work. A mystery by Austin Freeman, concerning an eccentric old man and the mysterious theft of some impressive gems. A complex mystery investigated by the popular medico-legal forensic investigator Dr. Thorndyke. By Austin Freeman, British author of detective stories. With its dust wrapper which is lacking the front fly leaf. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with some shelf wear, rubbing along the joints and extremities of the boards, bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The dust wrapper is rather worn with chipping and closed tears , loss to the tail of the spine, missing front fly leaf, with tape repairing internally to the wraps. The front wrap is detached from the rear wrap at the rear joint. Internally, firmly bound. Odd light spot to the fore edge, not affecting the leaves that are bright and clean throughout. Good
