A fine, fresh, apparently un=read copy (though with a 2007 Mother's Day gift inscription on the front free endpaper), in equally fine dust jacket. Hardcover. 250 with index. Scarce and inportant history and study of thew Delaware (or Lenape) indians in the context of events in the mid-Atlantic region and the Ohio Valley in the broad and significant period 1609-1783, including the Dutch, Swedish, and English colonization and the American Revolution. Drawing extensively on primary sources (such as treaty minutes, deeds, and Moravian mission records), the author examines important themes in Native American history---mediation and alliance formation--showing their crucial roles in the developement of the Delawares as a people. An epilogue takes the Delawares' story into the mid-19th century.
