About This Item
Published for the Petroleum Museum in Midland, Texas. There are 14 full page, color reproductions of western scenes by artist Tom Lovell. Text by well known Texas writer Elmer Kelton. The history of the Permian Basin area of West Texas south of Midland. In 1921 the Santa Rita #1 came in and brought in an oil boom. The book gives an overview of the Petroleum Museum and brief biographies of important oilmen. Santa Rita was so named because some nuns from New York, who were investors, had requested the name. St. Rita is the patron saint of impossibilities. The book is in very good condition with light shelf wear all around. The author has signed over his name on the title page (no inscription).
