About the author

James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937) was born in Scotland. After moving to London in 1885, he became a freelance writer. Drawing on his own childhood, and on the lives of the children he knew, Barrie created Peter Pan. The play Peter Pan first appeared in 1904, and was an immediate success. The novel Peter and Wendy was published seven years later. Michael Johnstone left his career as an editor to become a full-time writer, and he is now the author of more than 50 children's books. His vivid adaptation of Peter Pan retains the charming, offbeat quality of the original play, while making it readable for younger children. Chris Molan enjoys working on both fiction and nonfiction books. She is particularly skilled at combining magical atmosphere with real-life detail. She lives is Bristol, England, and teaches illustration part-time at Bristol University.
