Spine darkened; titles barely visible; some wear to edges of picture on front cover; split in a couple of places, down to but not through binding. Dark brown cloth boards with gilt titles on front and spine and b/w portrait (Paderewski) pasted on cover; 299 pp. with 16 b/w portraits. Includes 30 interviews with famous pianists and teachers of the early 20th century. Also an account of a Von Bulow class, hints on interpretation, by two American teachers (William Mason and William Sherwood) and a summary by the author. The advice to the students is truly remarkable. The interested reader can compare the techniques of virtually every major pianist of the early 20th Century.
