About This Item

The Grolier Club, New York, 1925. Softcover (Stiff Boards). Very Good- Condition. Book This is a play with two characters: Pierrot and a Moon Maiden but the content is less significant than the person who printed this little book. From the limitation page: "The Committee of Publications of THE GROLIER CLUB Certifies that this copy of 'The Pierrot of the Minute' is one of an edition of three hundred copies on antique laid paper printed by Bruce Rogers. It is one of a series of six books done by eminent American printers at the invitation of the Grolier Club." Rogers, a native of Indiana and graduate of Purdue, according to the Library of Congress, "has been called the greatest of all book designers. His most famous design is the 'Centaur' typeface ...." This 1925 printing comes early in his career while he was doing freelance designs, before his work at Oxford University Press where his Centaur typeface was used for the The Oxford Lectern Bible a decade later. A specially commissioned copy of the Bible was donated to the Library of Congress and the Purdue Library site notes, "The Library honored Rogers in turn by putting his printer's emblem on two of its bronze door panels, the first time a living printer had been so recognized." Size: 12 mo (7-7 1/2"). 50 pages. Item Type: Book. The text block is tight and unmarked with the paper slightly toned. The pages are decorated with an ornate border in red forming a frame around the text. The paper-covered cover is in Very Good-Minus condition with loss of paper on the spine and front gutter. The tips of the cover show some normal shelf wear. The title, decoration and publication information is on a printed strip of paper pasted around the front cover, spine and rear cover. The outside edges are deckled (rough cut) and darkened where exposed. The top edges remain uncut. Quantity Available: 1.
