About This Item
New York: Books, Inc, 1939. Early G&D Reprint Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. Louise Beaujon. 8vo, brown cloth with black lettering on spine and front cover, illustrated with several B&W original line drawings by Louise Beaujon, full-color pictorial Art Deco dust jacket (uncliipped & uncredited) of a blond-haired Pinocchio sitting cross-legged on a clown, protected by an archival clear plastic cover, vi + 252 pages. Pinocchio (from the Italian pinolo or "pine seed") is the leading character in the classic children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi. Carved by the woodcarver Geppetto, thougg created as a wooden puppet, he dreamed of becoming a real boy. When he lied (too often) his nose grew longe. Nevertheless, through Geppetto's handiwork, Pinocchio becomes a living, mischievous, yet real boy. Pinocchio is a cultural icon and one of the most famous characters in children's literature; his story has often been adapted--most notably in our day by Walt Disney. A VERY SCARCE if not RARE copy of this classic in a VG/VG brilliant pictorial Art Deco dust jacket. Cloth is tight and pages unmarked. Covers are mottled with wear to foot of spine. Slight peripheral nicks and rubbing to very bright and colorful Art Deco dj. Uniform age-toning with some discoloration or offset to endpapers. Overall in Remarkable Preservation!
