About This Item
BONUS: Before the rear endpapers, there is a large Pioneer Survey Map of the Peace River District that unfolds to 21-3/4" wide and 15" tall. "Sixty years ago, the Peace Country was beginning to open up and the topographical surveys branch of the Department of the Interior sent in a crew to map the region. The cross-hatched areas are the earliest lands opened up for settlement, complete with descriptions of the type of land, the height of riverbank slopes, river flow speed, tree varieties and the like. The main routes into the north at the time were the Edson Trail coming in from south of Sturgeon Lake, and the overland and water route via Lesser Slave Lake and on into Peace River."
Bonus 16-page section at the back of the book addressing "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the Peace River Country".
Illustration on front and rear endpapers show the "Mail stage crossing The Little Smokey in 1911".
Well ove 200 b/w photos to enjoy.
