Simpkin, Marshall & Co, London, 1883. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. Volumes were published consecutively, Volume I in 1883 and Volume II in 1884, both are First Thousand Editions. Brown covers with black and gilt lettering and decoration on front cover and spine. Both volumes have sepia frontis with foxed protective tissue leaf. Rear cove of Volume I is water damaged but this is on the exterior only. The binding consists of stapled gathering sewn together. In Volume 2 this has become loose and some gatherings are detached, some staples are rusted and have discoloured surrounding paper. First Thousand. 2-volume set (complete). No dust-jacket.
