Description

Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2007. First English translation of this monograph, "one of the most important studies of Plautus and Roman drama of the twentieth century". Fraenkel (1888-1970) was forced out of Germany in 1934 and eventually settled in Oxford, where his lectures and seminars had a strong influence on Classical scholarship in England. First published in German in 1922, translated into Italian in 1960, with some additions by the author, the work had not appeared in English until this edition, which adds an introductory essay on modern Plautine studies, as well as translations of all quoted Greek & Latin texts.
