About This Item

New York: William Morrow and Company, 1990. Second Printing. very good, fair to good. 317, illus., index, small tears/chips to DJ edges, front DJ flap price clipped. Includes eight signatures, all believed to be associated with the PGA, including signatures of professional golfers Lori Garbacz, Ronnie Black, and Buddy Gardner. An expose of the PGA tour: the people, the traditions, the business of American golf as never seen before. For the TV viewer, a PGA event means whispering announcers, manicured greens, and controlled applause from a polite gallery. In fact, though, a PGA event is clash of monumental egos, a race for huge stakes, with a gutsy and colorful host of megastars. Wartman followed the Professional Golfers' Association tour through every step. He here presents a lively account of that adventure, focusing on "player of the year" Curtis Strange, who evidently fought an uphill battle against his hot temper, and Aussie Greg Norman, depicted as a charismatic showman always ready to play to his fans. Also felt on the tour was the presence of Jack Nicklaus.
