About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1973. First Printing, First U.S. Edition. . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Symons, who was a distinguished historian, biographer, editor and poet as well as a Grand Master of Mystery and a critic and reviewer of crime writing, believed that great mystery/crime novels "show the violence that lives behind the bland faces most of us present to the world." "The Plot Against Roger Rider" is an excellent example of Symons' concern with how the crimes his works portray reflect the corruption and decay of society. Roger Rider is CEO of a large company and always demands and gets the top of the line, including the wife of his best friend, but there comes a day when Roger consults with a private detective because he believes his nearest and dearest are all conspiring against him. Boards show only a bit of bumping at spine ends; front pastedown is faintly empressed with previous owner's seal; some very minor soiling on text's edges, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The dustjacket shows some discoloration along its top edges, with a quarter-inch tear on top edge of the back panel, a small crease across the upper corner of the front flap, and light surface wear and rubbing. No significant tearing, chipping or creasing, not price-clipped. A collectable copy.
