First Dublin edition, originally published in French in 1757; the first edition in English appeared in London in 1769). With the book label of William Tatham in each volume; Tatham was well known for his work in the tobacco business in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee in the late 18th century and he published an important book on the subject in 1800.

Written a few years after Burton's celebrated account of his journey to Mecca and Medina, this book describes the explorer's 1860 visit to Salt Lake City. Burton, who met Brigham Young on the trip, applied his characteristic ethnographic eye to Mormon ways, and his work offers a detailed and sympathetic portrait. In making a Papier Croisé, the final step required that the paper be lifted up and carefully moved while still wet. This caused the characteristic knotting in the design.

Decorative matt cardstock slipcase has sample illustration in brown with pale blue title on the front cover. Rear cover has an illustration and the CBS studio and address in brown text. Slipcase has some age-related foxing to the top and front edge, a small blemish in the bottom left corner and some small dots staining the lower part of the illustration. Sleeve has light edge wear to the top and bottom of the spine and the front beveled edge. Also, included and attached to the sleeve with a pale blue clip, is a letter from Frank Stanton, President of CBS to the delegates. The actual book is printed on heavy weight pale blue paper with text and illustrations in black with all interior pages being in excellent condition – no tears, chips, creases, or previous owner marks. The stitched binding is in excellent condition with no breaks or damage.
