Red sand-grain cloth with gilt-stamped spine title; gilt-stamped decoration on spine and front board. Dark brown endpapers. The frontispiece, The Author on his favorite horse Harlequin, was engraved by E. Hacker from a painting by the author. Publisher's advertisements on final 32 pages. Binder's label on back fixed endpaper: Bound by Edmonds & Remnants, London. Inscription on front free endpaper: "Monica Reynolds 1939 (from Miss Clark, Westover)." Attractive former owner inscription on front free endpaper verso: "Richd: Lewis Parracombe May 1867." Pages in the latter half of the book are unopened. The author, Charles Bindley (1795/6-1859), published many works on hunting and stable management, under his pseudonym Harry Hieover. "He was a sporting writer of the old school, and seemed to write under the same exhilaration of spirits as he might have felt when going across country."--Oxford Dict. of Nat'l Biography. In Very Good- Condition: joints are rubbed, with minor loss at both ends of front joint; cover lightly soiled; back cover stained; frontispiece is lightly foxed; a few page corners creased; clean and tight.
