New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1960. Third printing. Hardcover. Very Good/good. With the Scribners ' C ' code on copyright page. Contains all the work that appeared in the book, "Poems 1922 to 1947," with the addition of two previously unpublished poems. INSCRIBED BY TATE, "Inscribed with thanks, to Kevin Madden, who in my class knew more than I knew. Allen Tate December 21, 1966." Also includes a TYPED LETTER DATED AND SIGNED BY TATE, in a typed addressed envelope, to Kevin Madden. The letterhead and envelope are from the Univ. of North Carolina at Greensboro where Tate was a visiting professor. The letter references a visit to Washington DC and includes some information on mutual friends. He also refers to Helen Heinz, his last wife, a nun and graduate student that Tate was having an affair with when he was married to Isabella Gardner. Dustjacket is worn along top and bottom edges with slight fadding to spine
