Sauk City, WI: Arkham House, 1964 Donald Wandrei (1908-1987) was an American science fiction and fantasy author; his admiration for H. P. Lovecraft led to his interest in weird fantasy. He and August Derleth were co-founders of Arkham House Publishing in Sauk City, Wisconsin. Howard Wandrei (1909-1956) also wrote weird fantasy but he is best remembered as the illustrator whose work best exemplified the look and feel of the weird. This volume is one of 700 copies printed as the first edition; signed by the author on the front free end page. Black leatherette binding with gold lettering on spine. Unclipped dust jacket is gray paper with red lettering and an impressive illustration by Donald Wandrei on front board side. Only flaw is a slight darkening at spine area of jacket. 68 pages. "Sincerely, Donald Wandrei" written on front free end page.

The Frank Utpatel designed dust jacket is in very good condition, slightly sun-faded along edges and spine strip and with a crease along the middle of the spine strip. It is not price clipped.

Book is unmarked, except for the Richard Manney bookplate. Provenance: Richard Manney (book labels), one of the most famous book collectors of the 20th century who was known for the best examples on the market. A selection of his library was sold at Sotheby’s in 1991, amassing a total of over $3.9m which was the first multimillion–dollar library assembled in the 1980s to come up for auction. .

Octavo, cloth. 742 copies printed. "A collection of all the poems Wandrei wished to preserve, taken largely from his earlier collections, ECSTASY AND OTHER POEMS and DARK ODYSSEY (1931). Each poem in the sonnet cycle 'Sonnets of the Midnight Hours' (composed around 1927) was inspired by a dream of Wandrei's. The influence of Clark Ashton Smith (with whom Wandrei had come in contact as early as 1924) is evident." - Joshi, Arkham 74.
