first edition
First edition. Hard cover. W. B. Conkey Co, Chicago (1883)
Very good. pOOR dust jacket. 160 p. : ill.; 19 cm. Includes frontis signed portrait. This fantastic copy published by Conkey (Chicago) is a puzzle. It is in unbelievably great condition-the gilt decoration bright, brown end pages clean, page edges unmarked, no significant bumps and just pinhead-size discoloration at corners, pages clean AND unmarked, black/white portrait frontis with signature that is surely an 1mprint. AND it has a dust-jacket. It is a brown edge-damaged DJ completely severed top to bottom. But a dustjacket in 1883?
Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919) was a celebrated America poet whose best-known works are this one and Solitude
