Description

College Park, Maryland: Iranian Students Association, 1975. First Edition. Octavo. 22cm. Publihser's cream coloured card wraps, staple bound, titled and decorated in black and red to front and rear wraps. 31pp. Clearly a rather home-made production, some soiling to the off-white wraps, fore-edge untrimmed, a little isolated creasing and dog-earing here and there. A very good clean copy. Internally clean. Various contributors, one of the most notable being a poem entitled "Torture" from Rogieh "Faran" Daneshgari, of the Organisation of Iranian People's Fedai Guerillas, who was arrested for her anti-Pahlavi dynasty activities and aggressively tortured by the regime. She refused to talk, even under torture, but several other revolutionaries were apprehended as the result of infiltration of Daneshgari's family phone lines. She faced criticism after 1979 for not attacking the restrictive and repressive gender roles of existing Iranian social structure, and instead suggesting they could be more like men, despite the stereotypical differences.
