Ingram, Cooke & Co, 1853. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1853. No edition stated. 347 pages. No dust jacket. Brown embossed cloth with gilt titles and decoration to spine. Volume I. Edited by Robert Carruthers. Includes illustrations throughout. Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Foxing more noticeable towards the start and end of the book. Hinges and gutters are cracked with exposed netting. Slightly loose pages in places. Front endpaper has been removed. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper and pastedown. Boards have some edge wear, with moderate bumping and fraying to corners, while spine ends are crushed and frayed. Rather scratched, rubbed and marked overall. Slight joint splits. Spine is heavily sunned. Gilt is bright. Book has a slight forward lean. Sticker to spine.
