This is an antique copy of "The Poetical Works of LORD BYRON" - complete in one volume. 1848; D. Appleton & Company; New York. This edition features an illustrated title page of Newstead Abbey (Byron's home), a frontispiece portrait of Byron, two facsimile documents showing Byron's handwriting, and six full-page "elegant steel engravings" (each with a tissue guard). Gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. The book has been professionally re-bound in modern hardcovers with a leather spine (the spine has five raised band and gilt lettering/accents). "Collected and arranged with illustrative notes by Thomas Moore, Lord Jeffrey, Sir Walter Scott, Bishop Heber, Samuel Rogers, Professor Wilson, J.G. Lockhart, George Ellis, Thomas Campbell, Rev. H.H. Milman, &c."
Condition:
Clean covers and spine; there is a 1" surface scratch at the left edge of the front cover by the spine. The top-right corner tip of the front cover is worn. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Bright gilt lettering on the spine; bright gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. The book has been re-bound in modern hardcovers and a leather spine. Nice interior - the pages are lightly age-toned with only some occasional mild foxing. Overall the book is in Very Good- condition.
