London: Peacock, Mansfield and Britton. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. A brilliant-looking pebbly leatherette cover with "Scott" stamped in gilt to cover, underscored also in gilt, with gilt lettering to spine, too, which is slightly rubbed. Red-stained all around. No date of publication, but circa 1870, and illustrated with eight albumen photographs tipped in. Decorated endpapers. Gilt design on inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Stamped at bottom of front free end paper is Hatchards, 187 Piccadilly, London. Nice looking copy in octavo format, tick at viii + 758 pp.; frontispiece is a photograph of a sculpture of Sir Walter Scott with a facsimile of his signature. Title page has a tipped-in photograph of Abbotsford. Interior remains clean and bright. Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Leatherette covers remain supple and attractive. Fetching gift inscription: "Marjory Brudenelle Bruce on her Birthday from her affectionate Father Henry Brudenelle Bruce, Mar 1st / 94, Harrold Hall, Bedford.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
