New York: Scribner, Armstrong, and Company, 1881. Leather bound. Very Good. 583; 7; [2]; 634; 655; 648pp. Thick quartos [26 cm] All edges gilt. Turn ins gilt. Marbled endsheets. Engraved frontispiece illustrations and numerous full-page engravings from steel plates. Fully illustrated. Gently rubbed at the extremities. The leather at a few of the spine ends is lightly chipped. Tanned pages. The plates are very lightly offset on the opposite pages. Complete. All plates present. A very attractive set. Preceded by a Sketch of the Pre-Historic Period and the Age of the Mound Builders. The author, William Cullen Bryant, wrote the well-known poem, Thanatopsis, and spent 5 decades as editor for the New-York Evening Post. Extra charges apply due to size and weight.
