Cubberley, about whom we can find no additional information. Original poster for an exhibition of naval aircraft at Philadelphia's Commercial Museum in 1919. Various aircraft are depicted in flight. Possibly done in-house for the museum, we have only seen or heard of one other example (on blue paper), and presume it to be rare.

Engraved title-page vignette, twelve folding engraved plates, plus engraved headbands, tail-pieces, and historiated initials by John Pine after J. Grison. Pine, of course, is known for his wonderful, engraved edition of Horace. With a subscriber's list. Light foxing. Light offsetting from engravings, which are lightly foxed with some having a few small stains. Occasional minor ink and pencil marginalia. Ink initials and red ink stamp on verso of title page. A very good, large copy. "Dr. Pemberton studied under Boerhaave, preparedthe Fifth London Pharmacopoeia and was invited by Newton to edit the third (1726) edition of the Principia. This study of Newton's philosophy is interesting as being the account of a close friend. The preface contains the author's recollections of Newton, especially in his old age. Johann Spurzheim was a notable Germany physician who was one of the most prestigious 19th-century doctors, along with Franz Gall, to endorse phrenology as a science. Gall and Spurzheim
"invented and advanced the 'science' of phrenology, a concept holding that the moral, sexual, and intellectual traits of an individual are linked to corresponding protuberances of the brain which in turn manifest themselves as lumps on the skull." (HoH 792)
Spurzheim, a native German speaker, produced several works on phrenology and physiognomical systems, in which he explored his theories on the human brain.

This enormous folio of "Anatomy of the Nervous System" is illustrated with 17 engravings of human anatomy and views of the brain and nervous system.

Johann Kunckel was a 17th-century German chemist and alchemist known for his apothecary dispensaries chemical experiments. While living and working in Brandenburg, Kunckel worked in a glass making laboratory which led him to the discovery of dying glass through uses of phosphorus, gold salts, and tin chloride. His studies in glass making prompted a treatise on the subject, a treatise which proved to be one of the best 17th-century works on glass making! "Ars Vitraria Experimentalis" includes countless recipes on making different types of glass with commentary on glazes, glass inventions, and glass furnaces.
